My name is Gina Lebkuecher (she/her) and I'm an International Research Fellow at Wuhan University (武汉大学). My research interests include ethics (especially comparative and applied), Classical Chinese Philosophy, Bioethics and Ethics of Technology, Feminist Philosophy, and Social/Political Philosophy.
I have taught (as instructor of record) Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, and "Do the Right Thing," an applied ethics course. During my PhD, I also co-organized my department's MAP (Minorities and Philosophy) program and led Inclusive Pedagogies and Classical Chinese philosophy reading groups. I defended my dissertation, “Reconceiving Virtue: A Mengzian Adaptation of Eudaimonic Virtue Ethics in Response to Contemporary Criticisms,” in March 2024. The dissertation was a comparative ethics project investigating how insights from Classical Confucian philosopher Mengzi can help address contemporary critiques of eudaimonic virtue ethics from the perspective of disability studies, feminist philosophy, and empirical psychology. |
ResearchMy current research interests focus on comparative (virtue and Confucian) ethics and applied ethics. My dissertation investigated the question of how Mengzi's classical Confucian philosophy can be integrated with the Aristotelian virtue ethics tradition to address contemporary critiques of eudaimonic virtue ethics from feminist and disability scholars. I have presented and published on a wide range of topics, including bioethics, Classical Chinese philosophy, feminist philosophy, pedagogy, phenomenology, and social-political philosophy. ServiceI believe it's important to engage with students outside as well as inside the classroom, and to make philosophy inclusive and accessible to all. I have been a graduate organizer and mentor for my department's MAP (Minorities and Philosophy) chapter, led inclusive pedagogies and Classical Chinese philosophy reading groups, and pursued continued education in inclusive pedagogy. I have also organized a regional high school Ethics Bowl and served as graduate student government president. Click "read more" below to find out more about my service work.
